Unit 9: Copyright
This unit addresses copyright law and fair use guidelines in the context of the art world. By starting with base copyright laws, students are challenged to accept the wide-reaching protection that copyright law provides to artists. The first four factors of fair use are then introduced as a consideration. The fifth factor of fair use is then introduced and students are assessed on their ability to apply copyright law and fair use guidelines to evaluate actual copyright court cases involving artists.
Copyright Law
The video is this lesson is the best I've found at describing copyright law in terms of art and not getting fair use involved. However, it can be difficult for some to find the answers to the handout in the video. You many need to go over this video with some small groups of students who have made a couple attempts at the handout and not been successful.
